This information has been excerpted (with permission) from 20 Great Easy Woods Walks near Seacoast New Hampshire, by Phil Blampied, copyright 1999. Trail Guide Mousam Way Trail is a pathway that goes from woodlands to streets to parkland and back again through the heart of Sanford and Springvale, Maine. It follows the general course of the Mousam River through town. The trail is a long-range project that has been sponsored and maintained by the Sanford Kiwanis Club. The more interesting sections are the woodlands near the recreation area on Route 109 and the sections crossing the woods in Gowen Park. Casey submitted this trail report for a segment of Mousam Way that starts at the YMCA: Two friends and I started walking the Mousam Way Trail from the parking lot of the Sanford/Springvale YMCA. We were each pushing a double jogging stroller and were very pleased to have such a nice paved trail we could enjoy with the strollers. There were several times we were even able to be three wide while we walked and talked. We followed the trail for approximately one mile and then turned around due to time constraints. This is a wonderful place to enjoy nature and still have the convenience of pavement. We recommend it to all stroller pushers! I did consider wearing my roller blades and was glad I chose not to. There was a lot of debris from the winter; it would've been a bumpy ride. It may be cleaned off now as this was at the very start of spring. I enjoy hiking and having children in strollers adds a great challenge. I'm glad the Mousam Way Trail is so easily accessible and in such a convenient location – right in town. Have Fun! |
